Common Air Conditioning Repair Needs During the Summer

Summer is just around the corner, and that means that more and more people will be starting up their air conditioners on a daily basis. The added stress of increased usage tends to bring out a number of problems in air conditioners that are rarer at other times of the year. That’s why it’s very important for you to keep an eye on your air conditioner throughout the summer. If you notice your air conditioner exhibiting any of the symptoms listed below, call a professional to have a look at it.

Iced Over Evaporator Coil

When the evaporator coil evaporates refrigerant to siphon heat from the air, condensation forms on it. This causes dirt and dust to stick to the coil (unless the air filter is kept clean). Eventually, the dust buildup cuts the coil off from the warm air it needs to regulate its temperature. This causes the coil to freeze over, which can permanently damage the part. If you notice ice building up on your air conditioner, call a professional.

Damaged Compressor

The compressor is a pump responsible for circulating refrigerant gas through the system. If liquid refrigerant makes it into the system, a common occurrence when the evaporator coil is iced over, the pressure created can cause the compressor to break down. This will either throw off the rhythm of the air conditioner, causing it to short-cycling, or cause it to break down completely. If your air conditioner is turning on and off every few minutes, that means that it’s short-cycling and needs repairs. Short-cycling can significantly increase the chances of a breakdown, and shortens the lifespan of the system as a whole.

If your air conditioner needs repair, call Ultimate Air Conditioning. We provide air conditioning repairs throughout Sarasota, FL.
